New Delhi: The Indian Army is facing a shortage of 9,106 officers while the Indian Navy faces a shortfall of 1,467 officers, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said.
In a written reply to Rajya Sabha, Parrikar said there is no shortage of officers in the Indian Air Force.
"The needs of security are being met by the optimum utilisation of the available strength by prioritisation of activities, use of technology and reliance on high motivation of the personnel," said Parrikar.
In another reply, Parrikar said the expenditure in respect of orders placed on foreign vendors has reduced from Rs 35082.10 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 24992.36 crore in 2014-15.
