Art of Living rejects Chidambaram statement
Attack on Sri Sri Ravi Shankar genuine, needs serious probe: foundation.

Bangalore: Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's Art of Living Foundation has rejected Home Minister P Chidambaram suggestion that the gun shot fired at the spiritual guru's ashram in Bangalore on Sunday was the fallout of a fight between his devotees and has demanded a “serious investigation”.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the foundation said: “Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was present on the spot near the satsang (discourse) venue when the bullet was fired at his car.”

“The Art of Living Foundation vehemently and strongly denies any allegations suggesting that the firing was due to a brawl between devotees. The terming of the attack as a mere 'incident' by the police belies the seriousness of it. The fact that the bullet was fired in the direction of Sri Sri's car and that a devotee was injured merits serious investigation,” it said.

Chidambaram had on Monday said the firing incident could be related to a dispute between two of his followers and it may not be correct to say that it was aimed at the spiritual leader.

"The incident took place after he (Sri Sri Ravi Shankar) had left in his car. It may not be correct to say that the firing was aimed at him," Chidambaram said. He said the incident could be related to "dispute between two of (his) followers".

The Bangalore police is yet to establish the single shot, which slightly injured a disciple at the ashram.
