CHENNAI/NEW DELHI: DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi has appealed to the Centre, State and the film industry to ban Dam999 from being released as it connotatively talks about the collapse of the Mullaiperiyar Dam.In a statement in Chennai on Wednesday, he said that the movie was made by those who had vested interests in the Mullaiperiyar issue, which is pending in the apex court. Karunanidhi warned that the release of the movie would disrupt law and order and cordial relations between both the States. He said all these aspects should be considered before a decision is taken. Karunanidhi observed that though the issue was raised in Parliament, the State had not registered its objection to the movie. Demanding a ban on the film, DMK members, led by their Parliamentary Party leader T R Baalu, rushed in waving clippings of a newspaper report on the issue. With the House adjourning, PM Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi called Baalu and discussed the issue. I&B minister Ambika Soni had apparently directed the ministry officials to give a detailed report on the film.
