Nashik: A debt-ridden farmer on Wednesday allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at Kasabe-Sukene village in Niphad taluka of Nashik district, police said.
Kishor Rambhau Bhandare (43) was unable to repay loans as his crops were damaged by recent rains and floods, police said.
This is the 20th suicide in Nashik since March 31.
Earlier on Monday three debt-ridden farmers had committed suicide in Maharashtra's west Vidarbha region.
Subhash Ramesh Manker (30) of Akola district swallowed poison on Sunday, police said. He possessed 10 acres of agricultural land and owed Rs 30,000 to the bank and the crops were damaged due to floods, they said.
Two other farmers Rambhau Amrut Bayaskar (65) and Manik Punlik Pandik of Akola and Washim districts also took the extreme step by consuming poison.
