HYDERABAD: Noting that there is intense widespread opposition from Adivasis and people living in plain areas as well, the Human Rights Forum has urged the state and central governments to drop the proposal to mine bauxite in the V Scheduled area of Visakhapatnam district. It has called upon the Union ministry of environment and forests, which constituted an expert committee to visit the Visakha Agency area, to appreciate the reality that bauxite mining does not have the consent of the Adivasi community.HRF state president S Jeevan Kumar and general secretary VS Krishna, in a statement here on Wednesday, demanded that the government cancel the MoUs with Anrak and Jindal. “The APMDC is acting like a benami of Jindal and Anrak in order to circumvent protective legislation for Adivasis. Mining of bauxite will clearly annul the Forest Rights Act of 2006. This is a clear violation of the Constitution”, they said.
