BBC to create downloadable archives of old shows
Shows that have never been repeated after their first run may finally be available to the audiences.

London: The BBC has announced the launch of a paid download service that will give viewers access to old and previously unavailable shows. The scheme titled 'Project Barcelona' will connect the BBC archives to the internet, and shows can be downloaded for two pounds and stored permanently in any user's computer hard drive, the Daily Mail reported.

Shows that have never been repeated after their first run may finally be available to a nostalgic audience.

BBC director general Mark Thompson asked producers for their support.

"A large proportion of what the BBC makes and broadcasts is never seen or heard of again," he said.

He called the scheme the 'digital equivalent' of buying a DVD.
