BANGALORE: Looks like the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is now focussed on finding new avenues to pool more funds. This time, the Yediyur Councillor N R Ramesh suggested that Palike could collect nearly Rs. 250 crore additional revenue, if they maintain the data on trade licence and tax industrial units functional on an area of 2,400 sq.ft, with over 40 employees. In the council meeting on Thursday, Ramesh said that according to the data base available with BBMP, there were only 4,286 industrial units from all the eight zones. He added, “When I checked the data base available with KASSIA and FKCCI, there are more than 1.10 lakh industrial units, out of which, at least 1.2 lakh units are working. There is a leakage of revenue from 97,714 units which runs into at least Rs. 25crore. Unfortunately, at present BBMP is getting only `4.5 crore,” he said.Further he noted that only 11 units in Banashankari limits were recorded in Palike’s data base while 98 units are currently working. Ramesh also pointed out that units like Mind Tree, Anand Annamalai and MTR are missing from the list.Ramesh suggested the BBMP officials to procure details of the units discharging hazardous industrialeffluents, units registered with KASSIA and FKCCI to arrive at the exact number of industrial units being operational. “This will the increase revenue,” he added.
