Mumbai: A sessions court on Tuesday granted bail to filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the case of illegal use of LPG which led to a fire on the sets of the film Black in which artifacts worth crores got destroyed.
The order came in response to a complaint filed by antique dealer, Farida Hoosenally, which accused the Bollywood director of breaching the provisions of the Essential Commodities Act and LPG Supply and Distribution Order 2000.
On October 26, 2005, Hoosenally had complained to the Aarey police that Bhansali had contravened the LPG order and used two domestic gas cylinders for commercial purposes on the sets of his movie, Black.
She further stated that on April 18, 2003, when the movie set caught fire due to a short circuit, the "illicit" LPG cylinders added to the damage.
Antique furniture, allegedly worth Rs 3 crore, which Bhansali had rented from Hossenally, was destroyed in the fire.
Bhansali had filed a bail application after receiving summons from the Aarey police "to report to the police station within three days".
Hoosainally's lawyer Y P Singh had earlier moved Bombay High Court when police did not register an FIR initially.
The High Court referred the case to Magistrate's court, which asked the police to probe the case and file a report.
