New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh Information Commission has served a notice to actor Amitabh Bachchan asking him to explain the basis of his state election slogan which suggested low crime rate in the state.
His slogan ‘UP mein hai dum, jurm hai yahan kam’ was aired by television channels during assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh this year.
Chief Information Commissioner M A Khan gave the order on a complaint lodged by Brijbhushan Dubey of Ghazipur, who sought to know under the Right to Information Act, the basis of Bachchan’s claim. The next date of hearing has been fixed on October 15.
The order, however, said that if Bachahan gave his reply to the complainant by a registered mail before October 15, he need not appear before the state information commission.
Dubey, on March 30, also sought to know how much payment was made to Bachchan and by whom, and what was the nature of his contract with the electronic channels.
After failing to get any reply from Bachchan, Dubey had approached the Commission, which fixed two hearings on the matter but no one appeared from Bachchan's side in any of the hearings.
The CIC then served a notice to him asking him to either reply to the complainant before October 15 or appear before the commission on the next date of hearing.
