Mumbai: A banner mocking filmstar Amitabh Bachchan's land donation controversy in Pune is Maharastra Navnirman Sena Chief, Raj Thackeray's latest salvo to stir up the local versus outsider debate.
Standing prominently at the Dadar junction in central Mumbai, this political banner is the MNS party's commentary on Bachchan's U-turn on the land donation in Pune's Maval area and his farmer status.
Bachchan's sudden change of heart has given a member of the MNS party's student wing — Sandeep Deshpande — an opportunity to make the right political noises.
"An arrow shot can't be retrieved and similarly what has been donated can't be taken back — that's our Indian culture and Maharashtra's culture too," says Deshpande.
Meanwhile, at the rally which Raj Thackeray addressed on Shivaji Jayanti, he had promised his supporters yet another rally on May 3 that would stir up controversy once more.
Until then, it seems as if his party is willing to keep the local versus outsider issue alive at any cost and this poster seems to one of the ways of keeping the debate fresh in the minds of the people.
However, it could also be a preview of the rebuttal that is yet to come after Amitabh Bachchan snubbed Raj Thackeray in an interview last week.
For now it seems the issue is far from over.
