Goa: At the sidelines of IFFI, serious business of films is being conducted at the Film Baazar, organised by the National Film Development Corporation and Confederation of Indian Industries.
With more stalls and variety than last year, this Film Baazar, promises to roll out big business for the film industry.
The Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy in the presence of CII?s National Entertainment Committee Chairman Bobby Bedi inaugurated the bazaar.
NFDC Chairman Manmohan Shetty, Film and TV Producers Guild of India President, Amit Khanna, filmmaker Yash Chopra and director-actor Nagesh Kukunoor were also present at the inauguration.
But, while the festival is aimed at selling Indian cinema to the world, there are disagreements on whether any real deals are struck during the event.
"I refuse to accept that deals happen during film festivals. Its a place to network and is an important meeting ground," Amit Khanna, President, Film and TV Producers Guild of India, said.
"Deals do not happen at the bazaar but the industry needs to unite," filmmaker Yash Chopra said.
With the presence of film fraternities from all over the world, Indian filmmakers will be able to explore new business opportunities and partnerships. And some also hope the festival will help strengthen Indian film industry?s presence in oversees festivals.
"Film festivals are a great platform to showcase one?s work to a larger audience and also to watch other people?s work," filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor, said.
Though the festival is better than last year, it will take the Film Baazar another decade to reach international standards.
