CHENNAI: In a freak incident, an unidentified body that was fished out of the Mangal Eri near Nolambur on Wednesday morning slipped out of an ambulance and fell on the road after the rear door of the vehicle opened automatically.The incident took place around 10.30 am on Wednesday, when the ambulance driver stepped on the accelerator as the signal turned ‘green’ at Collector Nagar junction on Ambattur Estate Bus Terminus Road. The sight of the 35-year-old man’s body on the road created a commotion.Eyewitnesses said they panicked on seeing the body falling down from the ambulance. “I was headed to my office when I saw a huge crowd gathered on the road. I initially thought it was an accident. I parked my bike on the road side and went to the scene. I was shocked to see the body lying on the road and later I came to know that it had fallen off an ambulance,” an eyewitness said.As the road was clogged with traffic, the ambulance driver tried to increase the speed at the Collector Nagar signal. The body, kept on a stretcher, hit against the rear door, which opened under the impact. Earlier, local residents had noticed the body of a man floating in the lake and informed the police. On recovering the body, cops found bruises and cut injuries.Nolambur police have registered a case under Section 174 (suspicious death) of Cr.PC. Further investigations are on.
