Bombs hurled at panchayat presidents house

MAHE: Tension prevailed at Azhiyur here following clashes between CPM and Muslim League workers since Wednesday night. Country bombs were hurled at the house of Azhiyur grama panchayat president Ayisha Ummer allegedly by a group of CPM activists. Powerful steel bombs were thrown at the house of Ayisha, and the house was damaged as a result of the attack. Houses of several CPM and Muslim League workers were also attacked following this incident. As many as 11 persons sustained injuries and were admitted to various hospitals. Senior police officials led by the Superintendent of Police, Vadakara (Rural), are camping in the area.Meanwhile, a hartal was observed in Mahe on Thursday in response to a call issued by the joint action council of head-load workers. They alleged that three of their colleagues were beaten up by the police at Chombal.
