BANGALORE: Residents of Nagawara are constantly struggling with water woes. With summer already around, the water problems seems to have just multiplied for them as ten bore wells have dried up in the ward. There was also a protest recently initiated by the residents of the Govindpur locality, as it is the worst affected area in this ward. The area corporator Irshaad Begum claims to be making efforts to arrange for water supply for quite some time now. She said, “almost everyday, I am going to the office of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) but in vain. No action has been taken by the BWSSB officials yet. They are not even sending water tankers to our area which we are supposed to get.” She further added, “At present, we have built a tank wherein we have stocked water from three bore wells. Water from this tank is supplied to the people in the ward on a regular basis both in the morning and evening.”When City Express interacted with the residents in the ward, frustrated residents fumed on the authorities concerned for their lackadaisical attitude. Sayed Wasim, a resident said, “It has been years since we are facing this issue. When we approach the corporator or the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), they blame it on the BWSSB and vice versa. Thus, the blame game continues. In such circumstances, what are the options left with common people like us.” Voicing a similar opinion, Raghu said, “Although the corporator has facilitated us with some water supply, sometimes it is not enough for all the houses. Finally we end up purchasing water from the private water suppliers.” The corporator said that the BBMP will soon sanction money for digging three more bore wells in the ward.
