A five-year-old boy died after drowning at a swimming pool in a housing society in Gurugram, with residents alleging negligence despite the lifeguard being present at the time of the incident.
The incident happened at the BPTP Park Serene Society in Gurugram’s Sector-37D on Wednesday evening around 6:30 p.m. The victim has been identified as Mivansh Singla.
Alleging negligence, one resident claimed that a lifeguard failed to intervene as the child struggled in the water. Another resident stated that the child’s lifejacket was loose and unlocked, with no trainers attending to him despite clear pool conditions.
Following the incident, Mivansh was rushed to Signature Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.
The child’s father, Binny Singla, an employee of Maruti Company, expressed that the incident has left his family completely devastated. He stated they never anticipated such a tragedy despite entrusting their children to the trainers’ care.
The Gurugram Police have registered a case of negligence against the pool trainer and initiated an investigation. A senior police officer confirmed the registration of a case of death due to negligence and assured further action if additional negligence surfaces during the probe.
Residents of the society have also demanded accountability from the builder management and maintenance agency in light of the incident.
