CHENNAI: After a surge of musicals, the Madras Musical Association has organised a ensemble of vocal and visual splendour titled the Best of Broadway. This concert will be performed by the reputed Merry An Singers, a choral ensemble of 25-handpicked musicians from Sri Lanka’s famous Mary Anne School of Music. Dr Ravi Santhosham, MMA President says, “It will definitely be a change from what we conventionally do, which is stand and sing.” He adds, “There is going a lot of movement on stage and colour, choreographed dance sequences, changing hats, twirling umbrellas and the like.” That’s a walk down Broadway for you, and music lovers can look forward to a compilation of some popular melodies.Resplendent with pieces from the Sound of Music, My Fair lady, South Pacific, West side Story, Flash Dance, Footloose, Java Jive, Boogie Woogie and Cinemagic, this show sure is going to bring a whole lot of groove and swing to Chennai’s music fans.Some of the artists in the ensemble have performed in the Royal Opera Company, England, Covent Garden and in the Auckland Symphony Chorus. Besides vocal and stage talent, Best of Broadway will feature Eshantha de Silva (keys), Sumudi Suraweera (drums) and Isaac Smith on (double bass).
