BANGALORE: Bangalore University’s special Syndicate meeting, which is scheduled to be held on May 17 after it was abruptly ended last week, may not happen after all. Vice-Chancellor Dr N Prabhu Dev said that a ‘physical’ meeting may not be convened, as he plans to solicit the opinions of Syndicate members via circulation.“The special Syndicate meeting may not be necessarily held on May 17. I intend to collect their (members) opinions via circulation,” said Prabhu Dev. He added that the issue of the withdrawal of the PhD of Registrar (Administration) B C Mylarappa’s student M Venkataramanappa was one of the items on the agenda. ‘Reply-No Reply’On May 7, the special meeting was cut short when the Syndicate members questioned the VC over the alleged exclusion of the controversial appointments of Special Officer (Exams) Syed Jamal, Additional Legal Advisor G R Gurumath, Vigilance Officer S Ramakrishna and the Public Relations Officer S B Yapalapa Ravi. “I have written to the non-teaching staff to give me reasons for raking up the issue of appointments of these officials. I have not heard from them as yet,” he said, adding that the complete agenda may not be ready until he is convinced of the reasons for including those issues. The non-teaching staff, on the other hand, claimed that they had replied to the VC by substantiating on the reasons. “I have sent a reply to the VC, and I even have the receipt of acknowledgement,” said Rangadhama R, secretary of Non-Teaching Staff Association.
