A group of burglars have stolen jewellery worth more than Rs one lakh from the house of a railway guard, who was on night duty, in the wee hours in Adityapur in adjoining Seraikela-Kharswan district, police said.

A group of burglars have stolen jewellery worth more than Rs one lakh from the house of a railway guard, who was on night duty, in the wee hours in Adityapur in adjoining Seraikela-Kharswan district, police said.

A group of burglars barged into the house of the Railway Guard, BC Pal, who was on night duty, and held his wife, who was alone at home, at gun point before looting the belongings including jewellery worth over Rs 1.5 lakhs in Railway colony under RIT police station, the police said. The police swung into action only after the incident was brought to the notice of the police by the local resident on Monday.

Meanwhile, a sense of insecurity was prevailing among the people as incidents of theft as well as criminal activities in Adityapur and in and around the steel city of Jamshedpur were on the rise and such incident have become almost a regular feature. Among other, the burglars did not spare the school premises nor the doctor.

While the burglars had recently broke open the gate of a school premises and stolen belongs of a school laboratory including acids, they managed to decamp with valuable house hold items including jewellery from the house of a renowned doctor in Sonari in Jamshedpur few days ago.

Expressing concern over the spurt in the theft cases, a senior BJP leader Saryu Rai had on Saturday said such incidents were not possible unless the anti-social elements get political patronage of the ruling party and cautioned that the people would be forced to take to the streets if immediate action to curb the incidents was not taken.
