Moscow: Christina Obergfoell of Germany won her first major javelin title at 31, beating Kimberley Mickle of Australia to clinch the World Championships gold medal on Sunday.
Defending champion Maria Abakumova of Russia took bronze.
Obergfoell threw 69.05 meters on her second attempt, while Mickle settled for second with a toss of 66.25.
Abakumova, who holds the season's top mark, disappointed with a throw of 65.09.
Olympic champion Barbora Spotakova of the Czech Republic missed the championships because of maternity leave.
