Cochin Flower Show to begin Tuesday

KOCHI: Come, feast your eyes on a floral extravaganza! The Cochin Flower Show 2012, one of the major flower shows in entire South India, will commence at the Shiva Temple Ground on Tuesday.District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth told that the show, organised by the District Agri- horticulture society, will put on display wide varieties of flowers.Mayor Tony Chammani will inaugurate the show while District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth will preside over the function.“About 15,000 flowering plants will be flaunted and many organisation across the country will participate in the function.Of which around 7000 plants are brought from Bangalore,popularly known as the Garden City,” he said.Medicinal plants and decorative flowers from various parts of the country will be on display at the 7-day show.According to the organisers, Kerala Books and Publications (KPBS),Kakkanad, Vegetable and Fruit Promotion council, Kerala, Department of Agriculture, Navy, KERAFED and SHM Kerala will participate in the show.Arrangements have also been made to sell flowers at reasonable prices.A sprawling pavilion, based on the theme ‘Indian chuvar chithrangalum, pookkalum’ will be the major attraction of this year’s show, said the organisers.To add more colour to the show, a vegetable garden and a landscaping are also set up.The show, which will conclude on January 16, will also witness the participation of prominent artists and experts in flower decorations from across the country.Besides, there will be competitions in flower decorations on January 12, 13 and 14.
