THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a massive combing operation, the City Police have nabbed 1,283 people, including 82 wanted criminals. The operation, which involved all police officers in the city, began at 4 pm on Saturday and ended at 1 am on Sunday, City Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham said.Nearly 200 lodges and hotels in the city and outskirts were inspected, which led to the arrests of the 82 persons, the Police Commissioner said in a statement. Eight of the 82 had long-pending arrest warrants against them. They had been absconding for over four years. They were produced before court and remanded in judicial custody.The operation was led by the Commissioner and Deputy Police Commissioner Jolly Cherian.The other arrested include 176 people engaged in drunken driving, 20 people who created a nuisance in public places under the influence of alcohol and 1,005 others who were involved in other crimes, the Commissioner said. All of them were fined and let off.The combing operation was intended to check crimes in the city, the Commissioner said, adding that the police were planning two such operations every month.
