RAJAHMUNDRY: Eluru Range deputy inspector general of police (DIG) G Surya Prakasa Rao has said that the police is ready to counter any Maoist attack in the agency area.
Speaking to the media at police guest house here on Thursday, DIG Rao said that the police department had received information about Maoists taking shelter in Rampachodavaram in East Godavari, and Polavaram, Jeelugumilli, Tanuku and Eluru in West Godavari districts. Combing operations are on in the agency areas of twin Godavari districts. One special party police in Polavaram and three companies of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and six companies of the AP Police are participating in the operations, he said.

However, he mentioned that the department could not engage remote helicopters for combing operations in the agency area due to the technical problems and lack of funds.

Rajahmundry Urban Police District SP P Umapathi, officer on special duty Janaki Sharmila and deputy superintendents of police were also present.
