A proposed Bill that many call highly discriminating, has been dismissed for now.
Srinagar: Even as the political heat is on over the women's quota bill, a proposed bill that many call highly discriminating, has been dismissed for now. It targets women from Jammu and Kashmir who marry non-residents of the state.
Under the controversial Permanent Resident Disqualification Bill, women who marry persons outside the state would lose their right to property, state government jobs and other privileges.
The bill was introduced by the PDP on March 8. But on Monday, the upper House of the J-K Assembly dismissed it saying the bill should be introduced in the lower House first as per protocol. The controversial bill has already rocked the state assembly several times earlier.
