THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The decision of the just-concluded 20th Party Congress of the CPM to move forward after considering the Indian situation is inclusive of a confession that the party was following a wrong path in the country so far, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala said in a statement issued here. The CPM which was aping the ideology espoused in the erstwhile Soviet Union and later turned towards China has now declared that a socialist model based on Indian conditions will be adopted in its future course, said Chennithala, noting that it was the same advice which was given to Indian communists by Joseph Stalin. The CPM has got the awakening now when communism, which had spread to one-third of the globe at one point of history, had faced severe setbacks in the last two decades. Massive changes are happening even in China, Vietnam,Cuba and North Korea where communism is said to be in vogue. The CPM leadership should introspect why communist ideology which had gained much ground in the 1930s in India had lost its sway in states like Andhra Pradesh, he said. The CPM should come forward with activities and programmes displaying true patriotism after dumping outdated ideological concepts, he demanded. He also critcised the Party Congress decision to go in for alliances with political parties at the regional level as a ploy to tie-up with the BJP.
