CRPF Begins Probe into Thevaram Explosion

BODI: A CRPF team on Wednesday began investigating into the explosion that took place in Thevaram on Monday. They are reportedly trying to determine whether the object was from another country.It may be recalled that Gunasekarapandian, a scrap iron dealer of Thevaram, and his neighbour Pavunthai were killed when he was dismantling an object. As the police suspected that the blast might have been caused by a rocket launcher, a CRPF team, comprising eight officers from Coimbatore, arrived at Thevaram. They showed rocket launchers, bullets and other firearms to Muthumariammal, another person, who was injured in the blast, and asked her if she had seen any such objects. The CRPF team noted the serial number of an part of the exploded object that was found by doctors during the postmortem of Pavunthai’s body. Inspector Radha , who heads the team, said that the object was a device used by the army and only the SP could be apprised about it. Since Muthumariammal has denied seeing the object, they suspect that the object might be from a foreign country, he added.
