The first selection list for Plus Two colleges is out and it has shown a marginal dip in cut-off marks that could be a reflection of the average scores in this year’s matriculation examination.
Cut-off mark in the Science stream for BJB Junior College has gone down by one per cent from 92.33 last year. The college also saw a dip in cut-off marks in Commerce and Arts streams.
Similarly, cut-off mark for Rama Devi (RD) Junior Women’s college has dipped from 85 pc last year to 83.17 pc this year in the Science stream, Rajdhani College has seen a dip from 83.32 pc to 81.5 pc and Basic Science and Humanities (Junior) College witnessed a fall from 88.67 pc to 87.67 pc.
But still, BJB Junior College, considered the top college, received 397 students who scored above 90 pc in HSC exam.
However, staff shortage continues to plague the colleges. BJB Junior College is struggling with around 15 vacancies in teaching staff and six in non-teaching staff. The library has no librarian nor an assistant. “Three in senior clerical positions will be relieved of their duties soon. This will create more vacancies,’’ said a senior official of the college.
Similar is the case with RD Junior Women’s College where the staff strength is only around 35-45 pc. “The staff crunch is nothing new, it has been there since quite some time and right now we are managing with guest lecturers,’’ said a senior official of the college.
The college has reportedly written to the State Government and it has been assured of steps to fill the vacancies. ‘’We are hopeful that the situation will be better from the next session,’’ said the official. Even the laboratories of the college are going without demonstrators. Other colleges are also managing with guest faculties.
