New Delhi: Dense fog in many parts of North India on Friday affected rail as well as air traffic with 30 trains running late and more than 60 flights delayed.
The Patna-Delhi Rajdhani was among the trains delayed, a Northern Railway Spokesperson said Purshottam Express, Vaishali Express and Jansadharan Express were among the mail and express trains running late. On Thursday, 54 trains, including Rajdhani were rescheduled due to fog.
The cold wave in North India has intensified further. Temperatures have dipped drastically across the region.
Thick fog across capital led to delay of 55 domestic flights and at least 10 international flights.
North India continues to shiver
Across the north, Amristar shivered at 3 degrees celsius, while Jaipur was at 5.6 degrees on early Friday morning.
Leh in Ladakh region recorded a minimum of minus 16.6 degrees Celsius, an increase of 3.3 degrees from yesterday, the official said.
Cold and fog were back in Punjab and Haryana on Friday where residents had been experiencing a temporary respite for a few days.
Narnaul in Haryana was the coldest in the two states registering a minimum temperature of 2 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal.
After a gap of a few days, fog was back at Karnal, Ambala and Rohtak in Haryana and at Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala in Punjab, the Met office said.
Cold wave continued unabated in Rajasthan with temperatures remaining well below the normal across the desert state.
Mercury at Churu settled at 2 degree Celsius while Sawaimadhopur recorded 2.8 degree Celsius, according to the MeT department.
In fact Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has written to the Home Minister urging him to declare frost and cold as a natural calamity.
Meanwhile, Kashmir remains thickly covered in snow - summer capital Srinagar is at minus 2 while Leh recorded a minium of minus 16.6.
Jammu-Srinagar highway shut
Heavy snowfall on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway has left nearly 3000 vehicles stranded. The highway had just been reopened on Tuesday. A 300-kilometre stretch is completely blocked.
The Met department says more snowfall is in store on Sunday and Monday.
