New Delhi: Dhanush will soon be heading to Varanasi for a month. The Mayakkam Enna star, who recently signed his first Hindi project with filmmaker Anand L Rai, told City Express that this will be a part of his research for the film, Raanjhnaa. He said, "Beyond the language, which is new to me, I think it is important to immerse myself in the culture of the people."
Will this be a family trip, considering his current project, 3, is almost complete?
"No, I don't mix work with pleasure." Unlike some actors who enjoy the occasional prank on sets, it appears that this national award winning actor maintains strict boundaries between 'work' and 'fun'.
"Everything that you see on me," he gestures to his formal suit, "is a result of my work."
"So, I never joke about my work. After all, nothing is permanent."
While 3 is currently in its post-production stage, the actor reveals that he will be completing a Tamil movie, before shooting for the Hindi film that begins in June. He confirms, "It should get over before I start work on Raanjhnaa in June."
Although he chooses to keep the details of his role under wraps, he does offer us a simple philosophy from his years in the industry. "We don't decide what kind of roles we do, the audience gets to choose. In Tamil, I'm able to gauge what my audience wants, whereas in Hindi, I'm yet to find out."
With only four months to go and with having to learn Hindi from scratch, Dhanush may well be the busiest actor.
The much-awaited Dhanush-Shruti Haasan film 3 will not however be a Valentine's day release as hoped. Instead, the Kolaveri singer says, "It is scheduled for release at the end of March." He adds quickly, "We have roped in Oscar-winning producer Resul Pookutty to work on the sound. For him, I think we could afford to wait for one more month."
