Director Soham Shah had a dream debut with Kaal.

Mumbai: Filmmaker Soham Shah had a dream debut with Kaal - an ensemble star cast, Karan Johar as producer and Shah Rukh Khan promotiong the film. But when he left Karan Johar's Dharma Productions to go independent, he didn't realise that he was also leaving behind the comforts of a good production house.

"Karan was definitely upset with me. But I had my very strong justifications for leaving Dharma. It was a difficult time to survive. You come across people you can't trust and they give false promises. And I am a person who would believe anyone if am made to believe and these are respected people in the industry. I was taken for a ride for sometime, I followed them and met wrong people. It was a process I guess," says the director.

It took Shah four years after his debut to finish his next film Luck starring Imran Khan, Shruti Hassan and Sanjay Dutt - an action-adventure shot in South Africa on a budget of Rs 40 crore. But rumour has it that Luck is an unabashed rip-off of European films 13 Tzameti and Intacto.

"I will not say that it doesn't have anything to do with Intacto and 13 Tzameti, but in the larger picture, when you watch it, it's nothing like that. But if you go back and Google and check out all the films made on luck - keeping aside the romantic ones - you can say that the world of my film Luck has been absorbed from them," says the filmmaker.

Confused? Wait till 24 July to know the truth. Audiences are hoping that Soham Shah's luck stays with him this time around.

What's your reaction?
