New Delhi: Dish TV, India's first Direct-to-Home provider, has announced the launch of Hollywood blockbusters on its 'Movie on Demand' service with the latest and popular English movies being made available on demand for the first time in the country's DTH space.
For this premier value-added service, Dish TV has entered into an agreement with Buena Vista International Television-Asia Pacific (BVITV-AP), the international television distribution arm of The Walt Disney Company, for latest blockbuster movies.
This tie-up offers a unique opportunity to Dish TV subscribers to order Hollywood movies directly on their television sets and the movie is made available to them within a span of five to 10 minutes of ordering.
"It is nothing short of creating a personal multiplex at a subscriber's residence," Dish TV business head Jawahar Goel said.
Dish TV subscribers, through the English Movie on Demand service, will now have access to a slew of box office hit movies from Walt Disney Pictures, Touchstone Pictures and Miramax across all genres.
The subscriber can watch action movies such as Gone in 60 Seconds, The Recruit and Pearl Harbour, fiction such as The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, thrillers like Dark Water, Enemy of the State, Signs and The Sixth Sense.
The offerings will also include romantic flicks like Casanova, Pretty Woman, comedy movies such as Herbie: Fully Loaded, Bruce Almighty, The Princess' Diaries, Runaway Bride, Three Men & a Baby, The Waterboy.
Movies in the drama genre include titles like Cinderella Man, Flight Plan, King Arthur, Phenomenon, and Six Days Seven Nights, to name a few.
Goel said, “Dish TV has been a pioneer in providing DTH and all value added services to the Indian consumer. The special and unique service of English Movie on Demand is another first move which enables our consumer to enjoy the latest Hollywood blockbusters at their own convenience and in their own households.”
The service gives Dish TV subscribers the opportunity of watching English movies from multiple shows of the chosen movie within 24 hours at a nominal cost of Rs 50 per movie.
The movie can be ordered through simply sending an SMS, through phone or by logging on to www.dishtvindia.in.
Dish TV already offers two Bollywood blockbusters every week at a price of Rs 40 per movie. The movies change every week, with four new movies - two Hollywood and two Bollywood movies - being aired for the next seven days.
"With Dish TV, the cost of ordering is minimal, given the DVD quality picture, stereophonic sound, commercial-free movie experience (which is like watching a movie in a cinema hall) and convenience of ordering and watching the selected movie at a time preferred by the subscriber for any number of times over a whole next day," he said.
