The medico who was seen in a viral video hurling a dog from a terrace was arrested by the Tamil Nadu Police on Wednesday.
Gautham S, a final year student of a private medical college in Chennai, will be produced before the Sriperumbudur magistrate later in the day.
In the video he is seen dropping the dog from the terrace of a building which appears to be a three-storeyed structure. While the dog is heard crying in pain, the man is seen posing for the camera with a smile on his face.
Gautham's friend Ashish Pal - who filmed the horror - has also been arrested following complaints from animal welfare activists.
An FIR was registered against them on Tuesday under provisions of IPC and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
The dog was taken to a veterinary hospital for treatment. The dog is stable but in shock, say doctors.
