BANGALORE: The state unit of Congress has warned the State government that it will intensify its agitation if the latter fails to initiate immediate action against those indicted by the Karnataka Lokayukta in the report on illegal mining submitted to the government last month.Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president G Parameshwar expressed apprehension that the new Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda may derail the investigation into illegal mining by shifting sincere officials who were probing into the charges faced by former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa. The KPCC president stated that Yeddyurappa had allowed illegal extraction of iron ore in Bellary and other districts while keeping silent about the illegal exports of resources from the state. He said that any attempt to save the culprits would be resisted.Earlier, Parameshwar was present at a ‘homa’ arranged by party activists at the Gayathri temple situated in Yeshwanthpur in the city, while praying for early recovery of the party president Sonia Gandhi, who was admitted to a hospital in America.Opposition Leader in the Legislative Council Motamma and former KPCC president R V Deshpande were among those present on the occasion.
