Drug peddler Held

KOCHI: The city police arrested a person with 12 ampoules of drugs from Shift Junction, near Harbour, on Wednesday. The arrested identified as Benny Sebastian alias Denny, 40, was the key person in a drug peddling racket operating in Ernakulam, Chalakkudy and Aluva. According to police, a trap was set by the police to nab Denny who arrived to supply the stuff to a police personnel who feigned as a customer. He was chased by the police and arrested from Shift Junction. The police have already arrested Lijo, the partner of Denny’s gang. The arrested was also accused in four theft cases in Aluva and several other drug cases in the city. He was presented before the First Class Judicial Magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. The police have arrested more than 20 persons in drug peddling cases in the last two months. The operation was conducted under the directives of City Police Commissioner M R Ajith Kumar. The secret operation was conducted by Assistant Commissioner M V Ramesh, SI Muhammad Nizar and SI Bijoy Chandran.
