Apologise for Anti-Islam Movie, Vaiko Tells US
Holding that the makers of the movie “Innocence of Muslims,” which has stoked a backlash across the Muslim world for its alleged “anti-Islamic” features, were unfit to be part of human society, MDMK general secretary Vaiko, on Sunday, demanded that the United States government tender an apology for allowing the movie and arrest its producers immediately.
In a strongly-worded statement, Vaiko said the movie had been shot in a manner depreciating the image of Prophet Mohammed, which was unacceptable.
The movie has been shot by a man who was on parole for criminal activities and had made a career out of shooting pornography. He said the most atrocious aspect of it all was that the group that shot the film had a name denoting Jesus Christ, who was a messiah of peace.
Instead of bringing the offenders to book, the US government had defended the movie by invoking the argument of freedom of expression of individuals, the MDMK general secretary said, while adding that this is rubbing salt into wounds.
“The US must take stock of the backlash and must ban the movie. Otherwise, it alone would be responsible for repercussions in the future,” Vaiko warned and reiterated that the movie makers should be sent to prison.
