THE BOAT THAT ROCKED PREMIERE

London's Leicester square came alive with dancers dressed in 60s costumes and dancing to the soundtrack from the film The Boat That Rocked at the film's premiere on Monday evening with the likes of Paul McCartney and 36-year-old ex-Spice girl Geri Halliwell in attendance. The film directed by Richard Curtis of Love Actually and Bridget Jones' Diary fame, stars Emma Thompson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rhys Ifans, and Bond girl Gemma Arterton. And Gemma had her reasons for doing this comedy.

"I've done, recently, quite serious roles and quite heavy stuff and I came onto this set and it was just the complete opposite, just fun, fun, fun everywhere and colour and music and laughing all the time," says Gemma.

Set in the '60s, the film talks about the United Kingdom Pirate Radio movement which uses a loophole in the legal system to its advantage and sets up radio stations off the UK coast and broadcasts rock and pop music. They come into direct conflict with the government which patronised jazz music. The film hits theatres in the UK on April 1.
