HYDERABAD: An Intermediate student was choked to death after his neck was entangled in a saree in Meerpet on Friday.Phani Pujit, 17, a student of Sri Gayatri college at Chaitanyapuri, is a resident of Teacher’s Colony at Meerpet. After his father left for work, Phani’s mother, Sharada, also left home to some relatives place nearby leaving Pujit with his cousins at home.“All the children played till 12.30 pm and later wanted to go to the relatives house. Pujit opted to stay back and sleep in the house,’’ Meerpet police inspector T Ravinder said. His cousins locked him from outside and left. Around 4.30 pm when Pujit’s mother and his counsins returned home, they found his neck entangled in a saree.According to Sharada, Pujit did crazy things to increase his height as he was only five feet tall. Police said he used a nylon saree and tied it to the hook of the ceiling. “While swinging along, he got entangled in the saree and might have died of asphyxiation,” Ravinder said. Because there were no people around, his cries went unheard and could not be rescued, police added. A case has been registered.
