KOCHI: Speaking at the 13th annual celebration of Kudumbashree Mission, Social Welfare and Panchayat Minister M K Muneer lauded the kudumbashree unit of Ernakulam district for hundred percent completion in the setting up of Ashraya units. “Ernakulam district has been in the forefront in setting up of Ashraya units in its self-help groups. A total of 107 Ashraya units have been set up,” he said.“Several groups from the central government are coming to study Kudumbashree. Groups from Srilanka and Bangladesh have associated with KILA to study the movement,” he said. The event, inaugurated by Union Minister for Food and Civil Supplies K V Thomas, saw the participation of Kudumbashree members from across the district. Distribution of awards for the best CDS, awards for best banks, distribution of subsidies, release of MIS, distribution of subsidies for micro-enterprises, distribution of incentives for community farming, release of the Kudumbashree ‘Thiruvonam’ CD etc were conducted during the function. District panchayat president Eldose Kunnapally said a total of Rs. 88.68 lakh has been utilised in the various projects of Kudumbashree in the district.The Kudumbashree’s theme for the year is ‘Economic Empowerment of Women’. This will include a variety of enterprises, training, brand, marketing and large-scale implementation of projects such as farming. “The Kudumbashree has already brought 10,000 acres of fallow land under farming. We aim to bring every bit of fallow land under farming. We are also looking forward to the elections due in December. The last election was held three years ago. This year will see elections from the lowest neighbourhood units to the highest levels in the state,” said Tanny Thomas, Kudumbashree District Planning Officer.
