Cadre of the Naam Tamilar Iyakkam staged a protest in front of the Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts here on Thursday, demanding that the college administration send back the Sri Lankan students who were there for a cultural exchange programme.
Sources said, 54 school students and 10 teachers from Sri Lanka had come to India on a cultural exchange programme organised by the Kalai Kaviri Fine Arts College here, on Wednesday.
On getting information that Sri Lankan students were attending the programme, the cadre led by district coordinator, Advocate Prabhu, gathered in front of the college and raised slogans against the island nation and President Rajapakse.
They wanted the college to scrap the cultural exchange programme and send the Sri Lankan team back to their country. They also condemned the college for conducting such cultural programmes.
On information, a police team led by Cantonment Assistant Commissioner of Police CK Gandhi, rushed to the spot and arrested 13 of the cadre including Prabhu. Later, they were released.
