A homemaker who sought school admissions for her son has become the fourth woman to complain of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation against former JDS Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna. The woman came forward to file the First Information Report (FIR) about ten days after Prajwal Revanna was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on his return to India on May 31 following several complaints of sexual assault by women.
According to the complaint, the then JDS MP had sought her phone number when she had met him seeking admission for her son in a school. Very soon, she received a video call from him in which he allegedly forced her to have virtual sex.
He is alleged to have continued to indulge in this forced act about 8-10 times between October 2019 and 2020 whenever he was in Hassan. The complainant has said that whenever she raised the issue of her son’s admission, he would tell her that until she indulged in sex with him, her work would not be done.
After the first couple of instances, he is alleged to have blackmailed her by saying that the video recording would be released. All these calls were allegedly video calls around midnight. She was allegedly told that these were normal practices.
The complainant filed the FIR accusing him of sexual harassment, stalking, criminal intimidation, assault or criminally forcing her with intent to outrage her modesty, clandestine recording and violation of privacy.
“This fourth FIR will further strengthen our case against Prajwal Revanna and enable more victims to come forward,” said an SIT source to News18.
Along with Prajwal Revanna, the complainant has also named former BJP MLA Preetham Gowda, Sharath and Kiran for sharing images on a pen drive because of which she and her family faced significant damage to her reputation.
Hers was one among 2,920 video clips recorded and distributed through hundreds of pen drives dumped in public spaces in Hassan and other parts of the Lok Sabha constituency on April 21, five days before polling took place on April 26. Prajwal was the JDS-NDA candidate who lost the election.
Suraj Revanna Remanded to SIT Custody
Meanwhile, Prajwal Revanna’s elder brother Suraj Revanna was remanded to the SIT custody till July 1. Suraj was arrested on June 23 on a complaint of a male JDS party worker who accused him of forcing him to have unnatural sex.
Suraj Revanna has been allegedly accused of sexually assaulting two men including his aide who claimed he was abused three years ago. The first case was of a young man from Hassan who recounted his horrific experience with the MLC who forced him to have unnatural sex. The second FIR, curiously, was filed by the same aide who had come to Suraj’s rescue by filing a case of extortion against the first complainant. They accused the first victim of trying to extort Rs 3 crore from Suraj. The police say that the Hassan MLC and son of former minister HD Revanna will undergo a potency test.
