Ex-Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel is Now Madhya Pradesh Governor
76-year-old Patel was the chief minister of Gujarat from 2014, when incumbent Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, to August, 2016, when she resigned the post.

New Delhi: Gujarat's first woman chief minister Anandiben Patel has been appointed as Governor of Madhya Pradesh, the official Twitter handle of the President of India confirmed on Friday.

"The President of India is pleased to appoint Anandiben Patel to be the Governor of Madhya Pradesh, with effect from the date she assumes charge of her office," the Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a tweet.

The post of Madhya Pradesh Governor was lying vacant and Gujarat Governor Om Prakash Kohli was assigned the charge till now.

Seventy-six-year-old Anandi Ben will be the second Gujarat Minister from BJP to have been made a Governor. Earlier, Vajubhai Vala, a former BJP MLA from Gujarat, was made Governor of Karnataka.

Anandiben Patel was appointed as the first woman chief minister of Gujarat in 2014 and she resigned from the post of Gujarat chief minister in 2016 citing the age factor. She was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party since 1987 and the Cabinet Minister for Education from 2002 to 2007.

A resident of Kharod village of Vijapur taluka of Mehsana district in Gujarat, Anandiben started her political career as the Gujarat Pradesh Mahila Morcha President in 1987.
