CHENNAI: On the occasion of World Sight Day on October 13, make use of the free eye screening camps organised by Lawrence & Mayo and ASCO (Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry).World Sight Day is an annual global event which is known for focussing on blindness and vision impairment. With an aim to spread public awareness about the prevention and treatment of loss of vision, Lawrence & Mayo has organised free vision screening camps at all of their 76 outlets across India which is valid till today from 10.30am to 5.30pm. The free eye check-up camps will be conducted by qualified optometrists. The idea behind these eye screening camps is to educate people who have various vision related problems, give solutions and suggest early treatment to curb vision related impairment. This initiative is not only to render eye care services to the underprivileged. But also to increase awareness for needs to avail eye health services among the general population, as most causes for blindness are preventable. As per the recent estimate, 456 million people of the country’s population require vision correction in the form of spectacles, contact lenses or refractive surgery to be able to see and function normally. With a view to provide aid to the underprivileged, Lawrence & Mayo has come up with a noble programme called ‘Old Spectacle Collection Drive’ which will continue till January 6, 2012. Interested citizens can donate their old or spare spectacle at any outlet of Lawrence & Mayo. These spectacles will be then mended and given to those in need.
