London: Seven-time champion Roger Federer advanced to his 35th Grand Slam semifinal with a 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4, 6-4 win on Wednesday over fellow Swiss player and Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka.
Federer's first-set loss was the first he'd dropped this tournament in five matches, and also marked the first time he'd had his service broken.
He won on his fifth match point with a smash after a strong first serve.
Federer, who lost in the second round here last year, will play Milos Raonic, the first Canadian man in a Grand Slam semifinal since 1923..
The win improved Federer's record against his Davis Cup team-mate to 14-2, including 4-0 at Grand Slam tournaments.
"Last year was rough. I was very disappointed," the 32-year-old Federer said. "Went back to the practice courts. Didn't have any options left at that point."
