HYDERABAD: Citizens’ vexation with frequent bandhs finally reached the High Court on Monday with an Anantapur resident filing a public interest litigation questioning the strikes called by various political parties.A two-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Nisar Ahmad Kakru and Justice Vilas Afzalpurkar ordered notices to be issued to TRS chief T Chandrasekhar Rao and TJAC convenor Prof Kodandaram.Petitioner P Narayana contended that no political party or leader had a right to cause inconvenience to the common man, particularly daily wage-earners, by calling for a shutdown.P V Krishniah, counsel for the petitioner, said a number of petitions have previously been filed against bandhs but there had been no response to them until now. With the state now in the runup to the mother of all bandhs, the Sakala Janula Samme, scheduled for Aug.17, citizen interest has turned to the view the High Court will take on bandhs as an agitational tactic.Hyderabad and the rest of Telangana have witnessed 11 bandhs this year, three in the last 30 days. There have been other disruptions to business in the midst of this, such as the PSU bank strike launched on Aug 5.
