While one person was shot dead and two others sustained bullet injuries, police says trouble began this morning when about 200 people from Khejuri tried to enter Nandigram in batches.

Following the fresh violence in Nandigram, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee sought the Prime Minister's intervention to stop "atrocities" on people.

She questioned why violence was continuing in Nandigram if a chemical hub was not going to be set up there as announced by Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.

She said that her party plans to organise a one-hour rasta roko in West Bengal on Monday to demand restoration of peace in Nandigram.

The protest would include a gherao of all police stations in West Bengal on May 2, she said, claiming that "police were helping the CPI-M in Nandigram
