Islamabad: With the the results of the Pakistan National Assembly results pouring in, speculation about who will become the next prime minister has started.
Husband of slain former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, Asif Ali Zardari of the Pakistan People's Party's is a strong contender although he did not contest the elections.
In public, however, Zardari has indicated his preference for Makhdoom Amin Fahim, the low-profile senior Vice-Chairman of the party who contested and is now a member of the National Assembly.
In a recent survey Fahim polled more votes than Zardari over his suitability for the prime minister's job.
Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League (N) supremo Nawaz Sharif is banned by law from standing a third time. But nobody's ruling out a constitutional amendment that would reopen the doors for him.
His brother and former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif is another likely candidate.
Though there are no legal strictures against him even though he has been summoned by a court hearing a murder case.
