THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 10-day Ganeshotsav celebrations will conclude on September 10 with a procession starting from East Fort by 3 pm, S R Krishnakumar, general secretary of the organising committee told a press meet here on Thursday. Several small processions starting from various points in the city will converge in front of the Ganapathi temple at Pazhavangadi and will proceed to Sanghumugham and conclude there by immersing the Ganesha idols into the sea. As the processions meet at East Fort, there will be a cultural meeting to be inaugurated by former Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy. Cine artists Radha and Karthika will be the chief guests. The meeting will be chaired by Ganeshotsav organising committee chairman B Govindan. Mayor K Chandrika, MLAs, councillors and various other religious leaders will also be present. The procession will be inaugurated by Uthradom Thirunal Marthanda Varma by lighting the lamp. Priests from various temples will perform special poojas on the idols on the occasion. The procession will be accompanied by panchavadyam, shingari melam, chenda melam, panchari melam, pandimelam, pookavadi, theyyam and other folk art forms. It will pass through Over bridge, Ayurveda College, Statue, University College, AKG Centre, General Hospital Junction, Pattoor, Pettah, Chackai, All Saints’ College and conclude at the Arattu Kadavu at Sanghumugham by 8.30 pm. Before immersing the idols in the sea, poojas will be performed on the idols by priests. Poojas will be held under the chief supervision of Sreedharan Adiga of Mookambika temple, Sooryan Subrahmanian Namboothiri from Soorya Kaladi Mana, former chief priest of Sabarimala Vishnu Namboothiri, chief priest of Attukal temple V T Jathavedan Namboothiri, chief priest of Karikkakom temple Vishnu Narayanan Namboothiri, priest of Padmanabha Swamy temple Aarambadi Vasudeva Patteri, Puliyannoor Sreedharan Thanthri, Mithran Namboothiripad and Panimoola temple priest.
