Gautam Budh Nagar: DM directs schools to hold classes on moral, spiritual values
Based on his direction, the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) of Gautam Buddha Nagar, PK Upadhayay, has asked the school principals to conduct special classes for moral and spiritual education.

Noida: District magistrate has directed the schools based in Gautam Budh Nagar in Noida to conduct classes and workshops for the students on moral and spiritual values, saying Social Progress Index (SPI) should be the criteria of progress for any country or society.

Based on his direction, the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) of Gautam Buddha Nagar, PK Upadhayay, has asked the school principals to conduct special classes for moral and spiritual education.

"Moral and spiritual values among the students have been declining spirally. DM has expressed concern and has issued directions. Some NGOs have also extended support to hold workshops on these subjects at schools," Upadhayay said on Wednesday.

Addressing students at a Noida-based university recently, Gautam Budh Nagar District Magistrate NP Singh said that the Social Progress Index (SPI) should be the criteria to judge the society and country's progress.

"Science and technology education without spiritual dimensions has caused imbalance in the self, the society, the nation and the world. There is need to harmonize the society through synthesis of science and spirituality," the DM said.

"Social Progress Index should be the criteria of progress of any country or society. It gives the correct picture whether society is benefited from the policies or there is need for changes," he said.

"Presently administrators are concerned with hardware administration with thrust of GDPs instead of SPI. Administrators should change their strategies and involve SPI," the DM added.
