Pakistan's opposition parties have called for a general strike on October 6.
New Delhi: Pakistan's opposition parties have called for a general strike on October 6, the day when General Musharraf will stand for re-election.
The call comes after more than 200 members of the national and provincial Assemblies — all loyal to the All Party Democratic Movement — sent in their resignations.
They will formally quit on Tuesday in protest against Musharraf's re-election bid.
Petitions have also been filed in the Supreme Court against Musharraf's nomination.
Meanwhile Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhary set a deadline for action against senior police officers including the Inspector General who have been blamed for the harsh crackdown on lawyers and journalists on Saturday.
