New Delhi: The Home Ministry has asked the Narendra Modi government to ensure adequate security to jailed Gujarat IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt and his family. This came a day after Bhatt's wife Shweta wrote to Home Minister P Chidambaram seeking his intervention in ensuring safety and liberty for her husband.

Shweta leveled allegations against Ahmedabad police commissioner Sudhir Sinha, saying that the actions were being carried out under the directions of police commissioner.

"This has been a traumatic experience. There should be a dignity maintained. I am not concerned of my safety, what I am only worried at the moment is my husband's safety, she had said on Monday.

"I had written a letter to Judicial Magistrate and Police Commissioner and nobody replied back to my letter. I don't understand the extensions being given to the case. I want to inform the Centre that such extensions are very regular in Gujarat. I want the safety of the my husband. I want his dignity to be restored. I stand by all his decisions," she said.

Shweta had also expressed fear that more such false cases might be slapped against Sanjeev Bhatt.

Meanwhile, Bhatt's bail hearing was adjourned till Wednesday. Bhatt earlier on Tuesday refused to accept police remand for few hours as suggested by a metropolitan court.

The 1988 batch officer was arrested on September 30 in Gandhinagar for allegedly forcing his junior to file a false affidavit to support his claim that he had attended the February 2002 meeting at which Modi had allegedly told the police to go slow during the riots.
