Goa Police Add Rape Case Against Monika Ghurde's Alleged Murderer

Mumbai: Goa police on Tuesday added a case of rape against the alleged murderer of perfume stylist Monika Ghurde after details of what happened at her Sangolda home emerged in subsequent investigations.

Police said the accused Rajkumar Singh tied Ghurde to a bed with her clothes, showed her pornographic clips on her phone, and raped her before smothering her.

Before committing the crime Singh allegedly waited for one and half days on the terrace of the four-storey building waiting for the right time to strike.

"He kept coming down to check whether he could attack her but due to some reason or the other he had to go back to hiding," said a senior official from the Goa Police

He later entered the house at 6.30 pm posing as a security supervisor, threatened her with a knife and then tied her to a bed, police said. He cooked and ate a few eggs and shaved off his stubble before allegedly raping and murdering her.

Police said they are now verifying whether he had made a video clip of hers with an aim to blackmail her in the future. Police have collected beard sample of the accused from Ghurde's residence, which is an important evidence.

Singh was arrested in Bengaluru on Sunday after investigators tracked Ghurde's missing phone from where the accused had withdrawn money with her card.

“We tracked the number and found that it was active. The number took us to an ATM where CCTV footage confirmed it was a man using Ghurde’s debit card,” said the Goa police official.

Background checks by police revealed that Rajkumar Singh had lost his job as a watchman in the society where Ghurde lived after she accused him of stealing her umbrella.

“We found that Singh, who worked as a watchman at the society, lost his job a few months ago because the victim had accused him of stealing her umbrella. He did not even receive the last-month salary from the society,” said the official.
